considerは「星を観察する」が語源。「思う、考える」の意味ではthinkよりも文語的で、「より深く考える」「熟考する」の意味をもつ。特に何かを決める際に考える、という語感を含んでいる。
対象となる人や物に対して「どのように考えるか、どのようにみなすか」という意味ではdeemと同様の意味をもつ。contemplateやponderは「長い時間かけて深く考える」という意味となる。
