goodは「適切な」を原義として、「良い」という意味で最も一般的に用いられる言葉。主に人や物事、行為や程度などが適切かどうかを評価する言葉として用いられ、様々な言葉に対して「良い」の意味で用いられる。
人に対しては「優れた」「優秀な」、物などに対しては「品質のよい」「美味しい」、道徳的に「適切な」「善良な」。「適切な」という原義のニュアンスから「適任の」「適した」という意味で用いられる。「良い」という意味では、niceが似ているがniceの場合は、主に物事の資質を表す点で異なる。
