adjustは「調整する」が原義。物理的に「調整する」「合わせる」という意味から、意見などを「調整する」という意味でも用いられる。また自然環境や、置かれた状況や境遇に「順応する」という意味をもつ。この場合adaptとほぼ同様の意味をもつが、adjustには「調節する」「合わせる」というニュアンスが含まれる点で多少の違いがある。
