so that構文には「目的、程度、結果、様態」の４つの意味がある。①目的の「A so that B」は：BのためにAする、②結果の「A, so that B」は：Aした結果Bだ、③程度の「so A that B」は：BするほどAだ、非常にAなのでBだ。④様態の「so A that B」は：BするようにA（過去分詞）されている。
